The Betsy Ross Lilac is truly a one-of-a-kind, harder-to-find variety. Not all lilacs can be grown in warmer climates but she can be! This was the first lilac release from the U.S. National Arboretum, specifically developed for its disease resistance (like powdery mildew) in warmer climates and for its gorgeous rounded shape and fluffy, profuse white flowering habit. She’s a winner!

Downy Serviceberry (Amelanchier arborea), also known as Juneberries or Shadblow, is an incredible Eastern US native plant that produces fruit similar in appearance to blueberries but sweeter! It is very high in iron and copper, making it a powerhouse for health and wellness.
These special plants can be grown as large shrubs or small trees, depending on how you prune them and whether you remove the suckers growing from the bottom. Although Serviceberries can be slow to root, they are tough plants that are pretty easy growers. Their shallow root systems tend to grow horizontally, making them better suited for the ground than in pots.
Our Downy Serviceberries are currently growing in one or two-gallon pots and ready for a new home. Old Fashioned Lilac have an other-worldly charm about them. Their fragrance is a little intoxicating and is one that lilac lovers look forward to every single year. I guess that’s why so many perfume makers love to use their flower power.
Not to be outdone, the large number of purple panicle blooms themselves will grab your attention just as much as the scent. It’s a tough call which is more spectacular. Those heart-shaped leaves are pretty amazing too. If you can, I highly recommend planting one of these near a patio, sitting area, or open window for your home so that you can enjoy all the beauty your senses can stand .🌸 Do keep in mind that lilacs need a little adjustment period once planted.
