Tardiva Hydrangea

$12.99

It’s nearing the end of summer, and you’re missing all of those blooms in your yard. What do you do? You add in some Tardiva hydrangeas!  These show-stoppingly beautiful hydrangeas are an absolute delight to grow. They’re low maintenance, keep pollinators happy when few other sources of nectar are available (late-blooming), and they’re guaranteed to keep you happy too. Their showy white blooms turn pinkish purple as they age in the fall. 🌸 And… if you need the perfect blooming privacy hedge, this one is perfect!

➡️ Ours are well-rooted, currently growing in 1- gallon pots. Tardiva hydrangea is a hardy, vigorous grower, so these will take off in the ground in no time! They are dormant (no leaves) from late fall to early spring. They will be shipped without pots and will be bare-rooted when they are dormant, which is a great time to buy plants. Please see the last photo for a size and quality reference before ordering. Thanks! See below for more information in the description.

Is the Tardiva Hydrangea right for you?

🚨🚨 **** Important note: Sorry, No Sales to Western, Territories, or Phyto-certificate states due to shipping restrictions in your state (Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Montana, South Dakota, North Dakota, Colorado, Utah, and Idaho). I can also only ship to Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Arkansas, and Mississippi during bare root season (late fall through early spring) due to Japanese Beetle regulations.

Tardiva hydrangea is impossible not to love if I do say so myself! They bloom when most other plants are done flowering for the year (late summer into fall) which makes this hydrangea variety a real stand-out.  Their showy white blooms turn pinkish purple as they age.

Even when not in bloom, the leaves of Tardiva are a vibrant green during spring and summer. In fall, they turn into yellows with hints of purple. Absolutely beautiful to see!

These are extremely easy care plants, reliable bloomers with very few health problems, and even ideal for growers who consider themselves to have a ‘black thumb’ but want all the green thumb looks in their yards! 🙂

Botanical name: Hydrangea paniculata ‘Tardiva’

Growing zones: 3-8

Mature size: 8 to 12 feet tall and 7 to 10 feet wide (Space them about 5-6 feet apart for a solid hedge row and 7 to 10 feet apart for a little more breathing room!)

Light requirements: In cool climates, full sun is fine. In hot summer climates, these need morning sun and afternoon shade.

Soil: Adaptable to most but do need well-draining. They prefer an organically rich soil so adding some compost or Black Kow cow manure (bought in the bag at Walmart, etc) is great.

Water: Consistently moist is best, especially during the first year or two. Panicle hydrangeas don’t need to be wet but they don’t want to dry out completely either!

Fertilizer: Compost and Espoma Rose-Tone in Spring are a wonderful combination for these!

Pruning: Trimming and shaping panicles is VERY easy to do. You can keep these smaller in size. They bloom on new wood (this year’s growth) so pruning them in the dormant season (late winter/early spring) is perfect. It’s very easy to trim these!

🦌 Tardiva hydrangeas are not considered “deer resistant.”

❤️ However, they are considered to be salt-tolerant, making them ideal for coastal landscaping.

If you have any questions, I’m here to help the best I can! As a small family nursery, my goal is to offer the “personal touch” to show you that we care about your business. Customer service, and your support, sincerely matter to us. Thanks for looking!

➡️ I do my best to package your plants with the utmost care and love. Roots will be wrapped in damp paper with a plastic layer secured over top to hold in moisture. We always put “live plant stickers” on your box in hopes that UPS will indeed handle your box with love. We also ship in the quickest (affordable) manner possible to ensure your new plant babies get in your hands as soon as possible. We do not use USPS because we have seen too many long delays which makes for unhappy plants and customers. 🙂 Shipping occurs Monday and Tuesday – sometimes Wednesday – if you are close enough for a Friday delivery. We do this to prevent your plants from sitting in a warehouse over the weekend. If there are major issues with your order, please reach out. We care about your happiness. ❤️
