Sensation Lilac
$16.25
The Sensation lilac, Syringa vulgaris Sensation, is a French hybrid lilac you won’t be able to get enough of! Many lilac lovers call these their favorite because their two-toned, purple and white blooms are a real stand-out in any landscape. They also make the most incredible cut flowers to fill your home with heavenly fragrance and charm. This deer-resistant shrub is one you will look forward to seeing come back every single year.
Mine are fully rooted lilacs, currently growing in trade gallon pots, around 1 to 2 feet tall. From late fall to early spring, lilacs are dormant (no leaves). Plants are shipped without pots or soil but their roots are wrapped in moist paper and secured with plastic wrap to ensure safe travels to you. Please see the last photo for a size reference to be sure you are happy before ordering. Thanks! 🙂 The description below will offer more information.

Is the Sensation Lilac right for you?
🚨🚨 **** Important note: Sorry, No Sales to Western states, Territories, or Phyto-certificate states due to shipping restrictions in your state (Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Montana, South Dakota, North Dakota, Colorado, Utah, and Idaho). I can also only ship to Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Arkansas, and Mississippi during bare root season (late fall through early spring) due to Japanese Beetle regulations.
💜 If you have the space, planting these in mass as a flowering hedge row is an even more impressive color display. 🦋 Be sure to plant them near where you can enjoy their fragrance, and enjoy watching as butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and other pollinators come from far and wide.
✅ Botanical name: Syringa vulgaris ‘Sensation’
✅ Growing zones: 3-7 (If you aren’t sure what your growing zone is, do a search for, “(Your city and state) growing zone.
✅ Mature size: 8 to 10 feet tall and wide. If planting more than one, space these about that far apart as well to ensure good air circulation. These lilacs are pretty fast growers and can happily add 1 to 2 feet per year once established.
✅ Light requirements: Full sun. 6+ hours of direct sun daily.
✅ Soil: Prefers slightly alkaline pH. You may need to add Garden Lime to the soil to sweeten it if your soil tends to be more acidic. Well-draining is a must because lilacs don’t like wet feet. They also love rich soil so be sure to add lots of amendments like aged manure, leaf mold, compost, humus, etc.
✅ Water: Lilacs don’t want to be soaked, but they don’t want to dry out either. If there’s no rain, watering once or twice per week should be plenty.
✅ Fertilizer: As mentioned above, rich soil is perfect so be sure to compost, aged manure, etc. In early spring and fall, add some Bone Meal to encourage great blooming! You can also add a little slow release 10-10-10 mix or Espoma Tree-Tone.
✅ Mulching: This is important! Be sure to add a several-inch thick layer of mulch. Stop the mulch line several inches away from the lilac stems to avoid rot.
✅ Pruning: Best done after blooming has finished for the season to avoid flower loss the next year. You can do a more severe renewal trim every few years as well to increase health and shaping.
✅ Pests and disease: Dormant spraying is fantastic for these and helps prevent a lot of issues later on. Bonide All Seasons Horticultural oil and/or Copper fungicide is a great one to use. These can be sensitive to Neem oil.
💜 Guaranteed — this is one addition you’ll never regret. You’ll anxiously await these flowers year after year. They’re easy to grow, and with a little care, are one of the most rewarding shrubs to have around your yard.

➡️ I do my best to package your plants with the utmost care and love. Roots will be wrapped in damp paper with a plastic layer secured over top to hold in moisture. We always put “live plant stickers” on your box in hopes that UPS will indeed handle your box with love. We also ship in the quickest (affordable) manner possible to ensure your new plant babies get in your hands as soon as possible. We do not use USPS because we have seen too many long delays which makes for unhappy plants and customers. 🙂 Shipping occurs Monday and Tuesday – sometimes Wednesday – if you are close enough for a Friday delivery. We do this to prevent your plants from sitting in a warehouse over the weekend. If there are major issues with your order, please reach out. We care about your happiness. ❤️
