Bronze Fennel Purpureum (Plant)
$9.99
Bronze Fennel Purpureum is a beloved perennial herb that is used in kitchens everywhere for its unique flavor. The chopped leaves are great for your favorite salads too! Even if you don’t like the flavor, this is the one to pick if you have (or want) a butterfly garden! Bronze fennel is a plant host for the swallowtail butterfly caterpillar and they will eat these up! My plants last year were living proof of that! 😀 They’re also just uniquely beautiful to look at with their whispy, feathery foliage and purple/bronze hues. They stand out — that’s for sure!
These are currently growing in one gallon pots and are very well-established plants. They average 1-3 feet tall currently. I will ship these without pots but the roots (and potting media during active season) will be wrapped with moist paper and secured with plastic wrap to ensure safe travels to you!

Beautiful, tasty, and a butterfly attractant but deer resistant — Bronze fennel Purpureum is a win-win!
✅ Botanical name: Foeniculum vulgare ‘Purpureum’
✅ Growing zones: 4-9
✅ Mature size: 3-5 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide. These will self-seed (spread) if you do not remove (cut off) the flower stems before they release their seed.
✅ Bloom time: Beautiful yellow flowers in June/July
✅ Light requirements: 6+ hours of sun daily
✅ Soil: Organically rich (think compost!), well-draining. Adaptable to many soil types except poorly draining.
✅ Water needs: Prefers consistently moist
✅ Pruning: None required but you will want to remove the flower stems after they have finished blooming and before they set seed if you do not want this plant to spread across your yard.
✅ Very low maintenance, little known pest or disease issues. However, this is a host plant for the Swallowtail butterfly caterpillar and they will eat this plant happily.
✅ This is a beautiful, unique plant that has an unmistakable scent. If you love gardening, growing fennel in your space is said to repel slugs, snails, and aphids!
If you have any questions, I’m here to help the best I can! As a small family nursery, my goal is to offer the “personal touch” to show you that we care about your business. Customer service, and your support, sincerely matter to us. Thanks for looking!
➡️ I do my best to package your plants with the utmost care and love. Roots will be wrapped in damp paper with a plastic layer secured over top to hold in moisture. We always put “live plant stickers” on your box in hopes that UPS will indeed handle your box with love. We also ship in the quickest (affordable) manner possible to ensure your new plant babies get in your hands as soon as possible. We do not use USPS because we have seen too many long delays which makes for unhappy plants and customers. 🙂 Shipping occurs Monday and Tuesday – sometimes Wednesday – if you are close enough for a Friday delivery. We do this to prevent your plants from sitting in a warehouse over the weekend. If there are major issues with your order, please reach out. We care about your happiness. ❤️
