Jerusalem Artichoke

Jerusalem Artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus), also known as Sunchoke, is one of the most beautiful, purposeful, and fascinating plants around!  It is native to Virginia, has highly nutritious and low carb/low starch edible tubers, and puts on a flower show that will absolutely bring a smile to your face with its cheery sunflower-family blooms!

The bright yellow profuse blooms are beloved by birds for their seeds. Butterflies are also very drawn to this unique plant.  It does spread by rhizomes and self-seeds so be aware that it will multiply easily to form colonies! Naturalized areas work best for Jerusalem Artichoke because they can be tough to get rid of once established.

I’m extremely low maintenance and am deer resistant.  Once you see me bloom or eat one of my tubers, you’ll not regret your choice to make me a part of your landscape!

Ours have just been bumped up in size for the pot and are very ready to be out of cramped quarters!
