Chalk Maple Tree (Rare Southeast US Native)

$19.98

A gorgeous and hardy Southeast U.S.A. native maple tree that consistently wows in the fall — that’s the Chalk Maple tree (Acer saccharum subsp. leucoderme). It can also be hard to find, making this maple pretty rare! It is low maintenance, has beautiful light green leaves in the spring and summer, and has a shade tree multi-branching habit. It’s a true treasure for any yard.

🍁 Ours are currently 1 – 2 feet tall, young, but strong, trees.  These will ship dormant (no leaves until spring) and bare root (no pot or dirt) from late fall to very early spring. Please take a look at the last 2 photos in this listing for the actual plants you will receive. We do verify that our plants are ALIVE but dormant before shipping them out to you!

The Chalk Maple is considered the “little Southern sister” of the Sugar Maple. If you’ve always loved those but didn’t have the space, a Chalk Maple tree could be the perfect fit.

Chalk Maples also make the perfect understory tree and are often used as a shade tree. Imagine curling up underneath on a cozy hammock, swing, or bench, letting the day’s stresses melt away as you listen to the breeze rustle the leaves. What a treat!

We love putting our maple leaves on our compost and also spread them around our yard to benefit the soil. We even add them to our potted plants to help add nutrients. Maples have so many amazing benefits.

This Chalk Maple is perfect for those who need a tree for a smaller yard that still adds tons of fall color. Best of all, this is still an attractive tree in the spring and summer months with its vibrant yellow-green leaves.

If purchased when dormant during late fall/winter…

In colder zones where the ground is frozen, it’s best to pot these up now and keep them in a cool basement, garage, or other unheated space that will stay above freezing but help keep the plant dormant. Water 2-3 times per week the first week. Keep consistently moist after. Gradually “harden off” outdoors and plant once the ground is no longer frozen in the spring. Mulching helps insulate the roots and retain moisture as well.

If you live in a warmer zone where the ground is not yet frozen, you can go ahead and plant these now while dormant so they can get established. A couple of inches of mulch is needed here as well. If the ground is frozen, treat it as you would in the colder zones by potting it up and waiting until early spring.

If you have any questions, I’m here to help the best I can! As a small family nursery, my goal is to offer the “personal touch” to show you that we care about your business. Customer service, and your support, sincerely matter to us. Thanks for looking!

➡️ I do my best to package your plants with the utmost care and love. Roots will be wrapped in damp paper with a plastic layer secured over top to hold in moisture. We always put “live plant stickers” on your box in hopes that UPS will indeed handle your box with love. We also ship in the quickest (affordable) manner possible to ensure your new plant babies get in your hands as soon as possible.

We do not use USPS because we have seen too many long delays which makes for unhappy plants and customers. 🙂 Shipping occurs Monday and Tuesday – sometimes Wednesday – if you are close enough for a Friday delivery. We do this to prevent your plants from sitting in a warehouse over the weekend. If there are major issues with your order, please reach out. We care about your happiness. ❤️
