Boyne is one of the most sought-after raspberries because of its hardy nature, and it is very disease-resistant and cold hardy! They are self-fertile but you’ll get more berries if you plant more than one.
✅ Zones 3-7
– Size: 4 – 6 feet tall and 3 – 4 feet spread
– Sun: Full sun. It will tolerate a little shade but won’t produce as many berries.
– Soil: Rich (compost, etc), slightly acidic, evenly moist, well-draining.
– Water: Newly planted raspberries require consistent moisture, especially in our hot summer heat. Once established after the first year or so, only supplemental watering during the growing season should be needed.
– Pruning: After summer harvest, cut the oldest canes back to the ground. All canes can be cut back to the ground once the harvest season is over for the year. This encourages the growth of new canes for next year!
– Fertilizer: Putting compost into their planting hole (or pot) works very well. You can also apply a balanced fertilizer like a 10-10-10 in the early spring.
Raspberries do spread by suckers but you can easily remove these to control spreading and prevent overcrowding. These are a delicious treat to have in any landscape and our starter plants are ready for their home in the ground!
