Weeping Yoshino Cherry Tree (Shidare)
$26.95
Showstopper. Stunningly gorgeous. Dramatic. These are all perfect descriptions for the Shidare Weeping Yoshino Cherry tree. Spectacular pink and white blooms fill this tree around April before leafing out later on. Blooms can last for several weeks! There’s no doubt this one is an eye-catcher and you’ll look forward to seeing it every single year.
The Weeping Yoshino cherry tree is often harder to find than its upright cousin, which can make this tree very expensive when you find it. Ours are a steal of a deal; nice, healthy, starter trees.
These will be shipped without pots but the roots will be protected in moist paper and secured with plastic wrap, with or without some soil (depending on time of year), to maintain moisture on its journey to you. ➡️ Please see the last photo for an example of size, roots, dormancy, etc. The curled stems indicate their weeping nature. It is best to support these with a bamboo stake or other support while they grow and get stronger. Please be sure you are happy before you order. Thanks! 🙂

🌸 This listing is for one Weeping Yoshino Cherry Tree Whip (Prunus x yedoensis ‘Shidare Yoshino’), currently 3 feet plus. These trees are several years old and have nice starter roots that will spread quickly when in the ground happily.
Another benefit of this beautiful ornamental tree is that its size makes it ideal for even smaller yards. It’s not a dwarf but it won’t overwhelm your space either. Best of all, the leaves are beautiful even when not in bloom. In late spring/summer, the dark vivid greens show off. In fall, oranges, reds, and yellows brighten up any landscape.
✅ Botanical name: Prunus x yedoensis ‘Shidare Yoshino’
✅ Zones: 5-8
✅ Mature size: 15-20 feet tall and 20-30 feet wide. Reaches full maturity after about only 10 years. Fast grower.
✅ Light requirements: 6+ hours of direct sun daily
✅ Soil/Water: Well-draining soil is a must but adaptable to most other conditions. After planting, give this tree a nice deep drink of water. The next few months should be a watering frequency of 2-3 times per week. More will be needed in dry and hot months where there has been no rainfall. Once established after the first year or two, Shidare is much more drought tolerant and will be pretty low maintenance.
✅ It is very important to apply a layer of mulch several inches thick on top of the soil in a circle, covering where the roots will be underground. Avoid the tree stem by a few inches. This will help maintain good moisture levels, deter weeds, and prevent extreme temperature swings on tender new roots (hot/cold)
✅ Fertilizer: An application of a slow-release tree and shrub food in early spring is perfect.
✅ Pruning: This is a low-maintenance tree that doesn’t require pruning for shaping. If needed, you can prune out dead branches or unruly ones in winter or early spring while the tree is still asleep.
✅ Pests & Disease: All cherries can have their issues. However, most problems are ornamental, meaning that they only affect the look of a leaf and don’t create a life or death situation. You can treat these with horticultural oils, insecticidal soaps, copper fungicides or anything in that family. Sometimes it’s best to spray them preventatively so a problem never develops. Avoid overhead watering because this is a breeding ground for fungal problems. It’s best to water at the ground level. (that’s true for all plants, actually…)
✅ They may require a little love sometimes to keep them healthy, but overall, they are easy-going, easy to grow, low maintenance trees that will WOW you and any passerby that sees them. They’re hard to beat for color and unique beauty. Plus, you won’t just find them anywhere!

➡️ I do my best to package your plants with the utmost care and love. Roots will be wrapped in damp paper with a plastic layer secured over top to hold in moisture. We always put “live plant stickers” on your box in hopes that UPS will indeed handle your box with love. We also ship in the quickest (affordable) manner possible to ensure your new plant babies get in your hands as soon as possible. We do not use USPS because we have seen too many long delays which makes for unhappy plants and customers. 🙂 Shipping occurs Monday and Tuesday – sometimes Wednesday – if you are close enough for a Friday delivery. We do this to prevent your plants from sitting in a warehouse over the weekend. If there are major issues with your order, please reach out. We care about your happiness. ❤️
