Is the Eversweet Everbearing Strawberry right for you?
Just as the name suggests, Eversweet strawberries are a delicious treat eaten fresh or prepared in jams, jellies, or other baked goodies. They also freeze just fine if need be.
As an everbearer, I don’t have as many runners as my June-bearer berry friends, so I can be container-grown pretty easily.
Mature size: 8 – 12 inches tall and will spread up to 12 inches
Spacing:Â Give each strawberry plant about 3 feet of space to spread out
Sun requirements:Â I love sun and need 6 – 8+ hours of direct sun daily; however, I can tolerate afternoon shade in the hot summer months
Water & soil: Well-draining, sandy, loamy. When I’m young, keep me moist but not soaked. Once weekly watering is usually good, but check me during the hot summer months to make sure I’m not drying out completely.
Fertilizer: Starting in early spring, begin feeding your strawberry plant every 2 – 4 weeks. An excellent fertilizer to use is this one for berries.  (affiliate) You can also use compost or manure as well. Everbearing strawberries need a little extra food to keep producing well so this part is important. Be sure to stop feeding your strawberry early in the fall so it won’t be damaged by cold.
Diseases: When the soil is well-draining and the plants are properly spaced for airflow, the Eversweet strawberry tends to be pretty disease resistant. However, they can be susceptible to fungal problems, root rot, or leaf spot. Spraying neem oil once every 7 – 14 days as a simple preventative keeps your berries healthy & happy!
Good companion plants: Rhubarb, Asparagus, Rosemary, Lavender, Sage, Spinach, Garlic, Mint, Chives
