Eastern Redbud Tree

Original price was: $19.98.Current price is: $15.99.

The Eastern Redbud is easily one of the most beloved and well-known natives. Nothing announces spring like this tree does! Vibrant rosy pink blooms cover the branches in March/April before heart-shaped leaves appear after blooming ends. Leaves gradually turn darker green as summer nears. In fall, they’re an eye-catching yellow.

🚨 It may take 3 or 4 years of getting established before your Redbud really blooms well so do keep that in mind!

These trees are sold/shipped dormant (no leaves), and bare root (no pot with minimal dirt)  from late fall to early spring. Please see the last 2 photos as an example of what you will receive.

Description

Is an Eastern Redbud Tree right for you?

**** Important note: Sorry, No Sales to Western, Territories, or Phyto-certificate states due to shipping restrictions in your state (Hawaii, Alaska, California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Montana, and Idaho)

✅ Zones 4-8

✅ Mature height: 20-30 ft tall and 25-35 ft wide.

✅ Light needs: Full sun to partial shade but afternoon shading is best in hot summer climates

✅ Soil: Well-draining, fertile (adding compost to the planting hole is great!)

✅ Water needs: Regular and consistent moisture, especially the first couple of years getting established

✅ Fertilizer: One application in early spring of slow-release shrub and tree fertilizer is plenty.

✅ Horticultural oil application is recommended with any sign of pests because these trees are susceptible to several different bugs and diseases. We do NOT recommend spraying Neem oil on this particular tree as it results in damage from our experience.

✅ Prune out dead or diseased branches whenever needed to keep this tree healthy. A liquid copper spray may be needed if disease is found.

✅ Overall this is a low-maintenance tree but it does require some care.

✅ As a multi-trunk tree, this is a stand-out in any landscape

✅ Seeds are eaten by songbirds in the summertime and may even persist into winter months.

🦋 Early season blooming is invaluable to pollinators and nectar seekers like hummingbirds!

✅ Highly versatile tree looks great planted around patios, as a single ornamental tree, or as a border.

✅ Average lifespan is 20 years with good care.

🌸 This tree’s flower branches make gorgeous cut flowers for home décor!

If the ground is frozen where you are (soil is not workable), pot these up now and keep them in a cool basement, garage, or other unheated space that will stay above freezing but help keep the plant dormant. Water once when planted and once or twice a month after. Gradually “harden off” outdoors and plant once the ground is no longer frozen in the spring. Mulching helps insulate the roots and retain moisture as well. A 2 or 3-inch layer is perfect, avoiding covering the base of the stem.

If you live in a warmer zone where the ground is not yet frozen or saturated with water, you can go ahead and plant these now while dormant so they can get established. A several-inch thick layer of mulching is needed here as well. If the ground is frozen, treat it as you would in the colder zones by potting it up and waiting until early spring.

➡️ I do my best to package your plants with the utmost care and love. Roots will be wrapped in damp paper with a plastic layer secured over top to hold in moisture. We always put “live plant stickers” on your box in hopes that UPS will indeed handle your box with love. We also ship in the quickest (affordable) manner possible to ensure your new plant babies get in your hands as soon as possible. We do not use USPS because we have seen too many long delays which makes for unhappy plants and customers. 🙂 Shipping occurs Monday and Tuesday – sometimes Wednesday – if you are close enough for a Friday delivery. We do this to prevent your plants from sitting in a warehouse over the weekend. If there are major issues with your order, please reach out. We care about your happiness. ❤️
